Waterproof explorer trail hat in 100% polyester with a water-repellent surface. It shades you in the open and sheds the rain when it comes, with a wide brim for the face and neck and an adjustable band that keeps it steady on rough ground. Explore our full range of sun hats and caps.
The fabric blocks over 98% of UVA and UVB on the skin it covers, woven into the yarn so the protection holds wet or dry. The surface repels light rain and dries fast instead of hanging heavy on your head, and the breathable construction keeps air moving. One size, regular fit. Machine wash cold on gentle, hang dry, do not tumble dry the coated surface. See also our UV clothing.
A trail hat earns its place when the weather turns halfway through a hike: clouds roll in, a shower passes, and the sun is back within the hour. Browse the complete UV Max collection.

WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
The damage does not show up today
UV does not sting the way heat does, so you never feel it working. It stacks up quietly, one afternoon at a time, and turns up on your skin in your forties as spots and rough patches a doctor wants to look at. A cotton tee leaves your forearms and the back of your neck open to every hour of it. This shirt closes that gap.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
The two spots a cap always misses
A baseball cap shades your forehead and leaves the back of your neck and the tops of your ears in open sun. Those are the two spots men burn first and notice last. A brim that runs the whole way round, or a drop-down flap, finally covers both.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
Shade that moves with you
There is not always a tree where you need one. The brim keeps the sun off your face and ears on the water, on the ridge and in the open field, so the shade is there the moment the sun is.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
Folds flat, holds in a gust
It packs into a bag and the chin cord keeps it on when the wind comes off the water. UPF 50+ blocks over 98% of UV, so it protects for as long as you keep it on your head.
