Wide-brim fishing hat with neck flap in lightweight, breathable 100% nylon. The wide brim takes the overhead light and the rear flap covers the neck and the tops of the ears that the reflection off the water reaches. Explore our full range of sun hats and caps.
The nylon blocks over 98% of UVA and UVB on the skin it covers, woven into the fabric so it works wet or dry. A water-repellent surface sheds spray and light rain instead of soaking through, the crown breathes so heat does not build, and an adjustable chin cord gives a firm hold. One size, regular fit. Machine wash cold on gentle, hang dry, do not iron the coated surface. See also our UV clothing.
Standing in the shallows at midday the sun comes at you twice, straight down and back up off the water. Brim and flap cover both. Browse the complete UV Max collection.

WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
The damage does not show up today
UV does not sting the way heat does, so you never feel it working. It stacks up quietly, one afternoon at a time, and turns up on your skin in your forties as spots and rough patches a doctor wants to look at. A cotton tee leaves your forearms and the back of your neck open to every hour of it. This shirt closes that gap.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
The two spots a cap always misses
A baseball cap shades your forehead and leaves the back of your neck and the tops of your ears in open sun. Those are the two spots men burn first and notice last. A brim that runs the whole way round, or a drop-down flap, finally covers both.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
Shade that moves with you
There is not always a tree where you need one. The brim keeps the sun off your face and ears on the water, on the ridge and in the open field, so the shade is there the moment the sun is.
WHAT THE SUN IS DOING
Folds flat, holds in a gust
It packs into a bag and the chin cord keeps it on when the wind comes off the water. UPF 50+ blocks over 98% of UV, so it protects for as long as you keep it on your head.
